Thomas works as a European, German, and Dutch Patent Attorney, as well as a European Patent Litigator, with emphasis on the technical fields of Artificial Intelligence & Information and Communication Technology | Automotive & Mobility | Semiconductors & Quantum Computing | Advanced Manufacturing & Automation | Energy & Green Tech.
Thomas Wyder studied physics at the University of Bern, specializing in supersymmetric quantum field theory and minoring in mathematics and biology. He subsequently earned his Ph.D. from the University of Leuven (Belgium) in the field of string theory/quantum gravity, with a research thesis on black holes. His career in intellectual property law began in 2009 in Amsterdam at a leading European IP litigation boutique. From 2012 to 2025, he worked in Munich at a renowned German IP law firm, becoming a partner in 2020. There, he advised on all aspects of patent law, including multi-jurisdictional litigation. Since 2021, he has also been a lecturer in patent law at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). Thomas joined RENTSCH PARTNER in 2025 and advises clients in the Munich office.
