The filing procedure is ostensible easy. It is sufficient to complete an official form recognised by the Institute for Intellectual Property and to submit the same together with at least one reproducible image (photograph or drawing) per Design (Art. 19 para. 1 of the Design Act). The depiction of the Design is of central importance, since the scope of protection of the Design will result from this. Great care is therefore recommended for the preparation and selection of the Images. In addition, the applicant will have the opportunity, against payment of a fee, to describe the Design using no more than 100 words. Whether or not this is useful, must be decided in each case.
