The costs of a patent application beginning with drafting of a patent application up to the granting of a patent depend in particular on in which countries patent protection is sought, on how extensive and time-consuming the drafting of the application documents are, and whether during the registration procedure official objections or an opposition are raised. Typically, for professional drafting and filing of a patent application, costs of between CHF 5’000.- and CHF 12’000.- have to be expected. A precise cost estimate is only possible on the basis of the chosen patent strategy and the actual case. For Swiss patent applications, the official filing fees amount to CHF 200.- and about CHF 3’500.- for European patent applications (the exact filing fees depend on the number of countries, number of patent claims and other factors). During prosecution of the filed patent application, additional costs occur. Rentsch Partner would be glad to provide you a detailed cost estimate for actual cases.
